Hopefully this will help normalize asexuality in the media and help people understand that it’s okay to not be interested in romance. It’s a shame that Disney execs brought up the issue of a romantic interest so often, but at least the show itself has acknowledged it as a running gag. (I'm a nitpicking nerd with a drive to Understand™ and an assumption that canon can be assumed true in-universe, and a fanfic writer who loves character study. The Perry the Platypus meme is a reference to the Disney character Perry the Platypus from the Phineas and Ferb television show. for that to be the easiest method, really says a lot about the alternative options. Plus, the easiest way to determine the sex of a platypus in real life is apparently genetic testing, which. Easy enough to handwave something weird going on there, maybe OWCA's fault, idk. If you're committed to the trans!Perry headcanon you could handwave them as "prosthetics" though.Īs a side note, platypuses apparently have five pairs of sex-defining chromosomes, where humans just have the one. The ankle spurs I mentioned are in Primal Perry, used to escape from the antag of that episode. Again, the writers used the platypus kitchen sink. Not that we ever get confirmation of Perry's ability to lay eggs either way (the only kid he ever has, so far as we know, is Norm yes I will insist that Norm's his kid too), just something else to keep in mind. The end of Rollercoaster comes to mind, as does Perry Lays An Egg. On that note, multiple times in the show, the concept of Perry laying an egg is brought up, with the tone suggesting it's not surprising. On a writing level, this is probably just a "and the kitchen sink" approach to all common knowledge facts about platypuses. This is the only time we see actual Perry sweating, although in Doof Dynasty (the medieval China AU episode) we see Master Perry "sweating" milk as well. I mean, they have (or at least Perry has) teeth, for one, where platypuses in real life do not. Perry is intersex somehow, between the lactation and the later-shown ankle spurs (only on male platypuses in real life).ĭanville platypuses (teal platypuses) are just weird like that. (Or, to use my favourite euphemism for such that I've seen, a "self-made man".) Fairly self-explanatory. I've seen various theories to explain this, all of which are vaguely plausible enough to me that I don't have a particular preference: Perry is, for all intents and purposes, a guy.īut that's not quite what you're asking, because gender and physical sex aren't 1:1 (although often in alignment).
